Following the presentation, the Heart Guild made a donation of $100 to the group to help fun the baby quilts program.

Jeanette Reddick gave the Tip of the Month: If a favorite magazine or quilting book is coming apart from much use, take it to an office supplies store (Staples, Office Depot, etc.) and ask them to spiral bind it for you. It’s inexpensive, prevents pages from getting lost, and makes the book lay flat when open.

Members were encouraged to make baby quilts for donation to the St. Vincent’s East NICU. Lila Barton and Cheryl Clabaugh will be in charge of the donation quilts this year.

Meg McKinney announced a one-day School Days, to be held February 28, from 9-5, at the Deerfoot Baptist Church. The project will be quilts from the book Stratavarious, and we will be teaching ourselves and each other.

Themes for the fat quarter drawings for the remainder of the year were determined. [They can be found on the guild website.]

A spring retreat was announced, to be held May 1-3, at Ivy Creek. Cost is $175. Linda Layfield will be taking reservations, which must be paid in full by the April, 2009 meeting.

A Quilt Expo, to be held March 5-7, 2009, at the Gwinnett Center, near Atlanta, was announced. More information is available at www.gwinnettcenter.com.

Friendship star quilt blocks made by the guild members were presented to Kathy English, outgoing president, in appreciation of her two years of service.

Cheryl Claybaugh announced a class being held by the Evening Star Quilters’ Guild March 5, 6 and 7, 2009. Bonnie Hunter will be teaching Strip Twist on Friday and Star Struck on Saturday. Admission is $30 for members of the Evening Star guild and $40 for non-members. More information is available from Terri Bell at 620-5533. Bonnie’s website is www.quiltville.com.

Mary Ann Raley announced that tonight was the last night for the 2008 UFO challenge. Prizes will be presented at the February meeting for the 2008 winners. Forms were handed out for the 2009 challenge.

Meg McKinney told us about her trip to Portland, Oregon, and all the wonderful fabric shops there.

The program for February will be a demonstration of the construction of a large tote bag, taught by Cheryl Claybaugh.

Fat quarter winners were Meg McKinney and Diane Kennedy.

Refreshments next month will be provided by Elizabeth Lawrence (sweet) and Jeanette Reddick (savory). A sign up list for the remainder of the year will be posted at the next meeting.
