February 2009

February 9, 2009

Meeting called to order by Elizabeth Lawrence.

Cheryl Clabaugh presented a program on making tote bags, along with some very good advice on how large to make the bags – if they’re too large, they get too heavy to carry!

Minutes were passed as contained on website.  Treasurer’s report – $2,552,29

The guild’s website address is www.hodquilt.com

Meg McKinney reminded us of the upcoming School Days – February 28 at Deerfoot Baptist.  We will be teaching ourselves from the Stratavarious Quilts book.  Meg handed out sheets with directions to the church and shopping lists.

It was announced that an upcoming program would be presented by Roxie Elliott on “Stories Quilts Can Tell.”

Dianna Kennedy announced that the drawing for Secret Sisters would be tonight and asked everyone to turn in their information sheets.

Linda Layfield reminded us that the Spring Retreat is May 1-3 at Ivy Creek.  Eight have already signed up; others must turn in their money by the April meeting.  Cost of the retreat is $175.00.  Dianna assured us that all participants would leave with a complete small quilt, possibly a larger one.

Elizabeth reminded us of the Quilt Expo March 5-7 at the Guinnett Center.

The 2008 UFO challenge winners were Cheryl Clabaugh and Linda Layfield.  Each received a check in the amount of $50.00.

Ginny Stephens showed the completed top for the Friendship Quilt.

Dianna Kennedy inquired about the guild beginning to accept junior members at a reduced rate.  Elaine Rasco moved that junior members (carrying no voting rights) up to age 18 be accepted at half price.  Seconded by Mary Ann Raley; motion passed.

Ginny Stephens inquired about a reduced rate for seniors, 65 and older.  The inquiry was tabled pending an inquiry into how much it would affect the guild’s income.  It was decided to check into that and discuss it again later.

Elizabeth reminded the members of the sign up sheet for refreshments.

Twenty four members present, plus Emily, and one visitor, Kathy Tubbs.

Fat Quarter winners were Mary Alice, Cheryl and Elizabeth.
