March 2009

Meeting was called to order by Elizabeth Lawrence.

The program presented by Roxie Elliott was entitled “The Stories Quilts Can Tell”.  She showed many of her beautiful quilts and told the stories behind them.  Roxie was a charter member of Heart of Dixie Quilters’ Guild and was encouraged to rejoin.

The business meeting was called to order.  The minutes of the February meeting were approved with one correction.

School Days was held February 28, with seven members in attendance.  Later in the meeting, the attendees showed off the beautiful quilt tops they had made.

Members were reminded that volunteers were still needed for the refreshments for the months of April, May and June.  Kathy English and Marcia Sizemore volunteered for April.

Treasurer’s report – $3,201.49 currently in the account.

A card for Lila Barton, who is recovering from surgery, was passed around for everyone to sign.

Ginny Stevens announced that she had twenty block packets available for the next friendship quilt.  Each packet is $5.  She asked that the completed blocks be returned by the May meeting.

Linda Layfield reminded members of the Spring Retreat, May 1-3, at Ivy Creek.  Twelve members have signed up to date.  The deposit is due tonight, with the balance due in April.  Dianna Kennedy showed the sample of the retreat quilt.

Discussion of a possible senior member’s discount was tabled so that more research of the impact it would have on the guild’s finances could be conducted.

Dianna Kennedy reminded everyone to remember their Secret Sister.

The Tip of the Month was how to make a revolving cutting mat from a lazy susan, an old cutting mat and super glue.

Questions were entertained from the members concerning the NICU baby quilts and what money in the guild’s account was earmarked for those quilts.

Christy Smith from Bernina will be giving the April program.

Fat Quarter winners were Emily Kennedy and Ginny Stevens.

After show and tell, the meeting was dismissed.

Fat quarter for the April drawing is Easter themed fabric.
