April 2009

Meeting was called to order by Kathy English, as Elizabeth Lawrence was unable to attend due to inclement weather.

The program was presented by Christy Smith, who emphasized that quilting should be fun, and one should consider three factors when deciding on a project – time, energy and money.  She displayed several beautiful quilts that she had made.

She also suggested viewing the DVD “Grand Finale” by Ricky Tims for finishing techniques.

It was announced that Annie was having a yard sale April 30, May 1-2, to sell the remainder of her stock from Quilter’s Workshop.

Treasurer’s report:  The bank statement shows a balance of $3,083.04.

Dianna Kennedy announced the opening of a new quilt shop in Ellerslie, Georgia, “Sunday Best Quilt Works.”  Their website is www.sundaybestquiltworks.com and they are about 15 minutes north of Peachtree Mall, in Atlanta.

The Birmingham Quilters Guild show and symposium was announced, June 11-13, 2009, at St. Bernard Retreat Center, near Cullman.  Details can be found at www.qsai.org

Members were reminded of the retreat, May 1-3, and that there were still three openings.  Twelve people had registered.

Ginny reminded everyone that the friendship quilt blocks are due back by the May meeting.

The fat quarter theme for May is green.

Cheryl Clabough announced that she had dropped off twenty quilts to the St. Vincent East NICU.  Members were encouraged to make more, as the hospital has no way of predicting their needs.

Fat quarter winners were Emily Kennedy, Cheryl Clabough and Phyllis Morse.

Twenty-three members were present, with one visitor (Christy Smith).

The meeting ended with Show and Tell.
