May meeting

Meeting was called to order by Elizabeth Lawrence.

The program was provided by Bettye Kimbrell, who taught a fascinating class on leaf pounding, where the chlorophyll from a leaf is transferred to muslin fabric, leaving the shape of the leaf. The fabric is then “set” with vinegar and water and washed.

Minutes from the April meeting were approved.

Treasurer’s report: Bank statement balance of $3,220.54.

Regarding the friendship quilt: Ginny Stevens stated that all but four of the blocks had been turned in.

Regarding the retreat: Linda Layfield reported that it had rained all three days, but those participating in the retreat still had a great time. Those who had completed tops displayed them.

It was suggested that we consider having a fall retreat also.

Regarding School Days: Meg McKinney asked for suggestions for what sort of program to have, and for possible venues.

It was proposed that we make a donation of $50.00 to Deerfoot Baptist Church in thanks for the use of their premises.

Ginny Stevens offered to host sewing circles on Saturdays from 10:00 – 4:00. All are welcome; there is room for six.

It was announced that with the July meeting we will move to Room 206 due to renovations at the church. It was also suggested that we make a donation to FBC – Trussville for use of their facilities. One suggestion was to make quilts for their nursery.

The Quilting Tip for May was to use address labels to identify notions, books, etc., particularly when taking them to classes, retreats, etc.

Twenty-four members were present. A new membership list was handed out.

Fat quarter winners were Jeanette Alvis, Emily Kennedy, Reba Allred and Patty Frye.

The fat quarter for June is beach themed. Refreshments for the June meeting will be provided by Ginny Stevens and Donna Blackwood.

The meeting concluded with Show and Tell.
