July Meeting

Meeting was called to order by Jeanette Reddick in the absence of the president, Elizabeth Lawrence.

Carrie Ingram gave an interesting and informative class on paper or foundation piecing.  She recommended using the paper specially made for paper piecing, as it is thinner than regular typing paper.  She also reminded the group not to remove the paper backing until the entire top is assembled, and, if the paper is difficult to remove, mist it with a water spray bottle.

When copying patterns for paper piecing, make sure to ascertain whether or not the photocopier is changing the size, and never make a copy of a copy.  The lines will be much clearer if an original is used to make copies from.

There are many books available with patterns for paper piecing.  Patterns are also available at www.quilterscache.com and many other websites.

Minutes were approved as posted on the website.

Treasurer’s report – $3,038.46

Ginny Stevens announced that one block is still missing from the friendship quilt.

Meg McKinney discussed the various proposals for School Days.  It was decided that the project would be one of Bonnie Hunter’s “stash buster” projects from her website, www.quiltville.com, and lunch would be “brownbag”.  It is to be held at Deerfoot Baptist Church, at a date in late September, to be announced later.

The tip of the month was to remember the value of a new needle and a clean sewing machine.  It is recommended that you fill four to five bobbins and when they are empty, replace the needle and clean the machine.

A request was made for a replacement representative for the guild at the Quilt Symposium.  It was also announced that the Evening Star Quilt Guild may make a bid on the Symposium for 2012.

Twenty-five members present, including one new member.  Two visitors.

Fat Quarter winners were Phyllis Morse, Mary Alice Hart, and Kathy Tubbs.

The meeting concluded with show and tell.

Fat quarter theme for the August meeting is Orientals.  Refreshments will be provided by Linda Layfield and Dianna Kennedy.
