September Meeting

Meeting called to order by Elizabeth Lawrence.

Minutes from August meeting approved after one change.  Fat quarters in August were won by Jeanette Alvis, not Jeanette Reddick.

Treasurer’s report – $3,050.96.

Elizabeth announced several upcoming quilt shows (details below).

Emily Kennedy announced that she has the block kits ready for the Friendship Quilt.  Blocks are $2.00, and are of fish.  The kit contains the blue background fabric; each member is to provide their own fabric (color of their choice) for the fish.

Meg McKinney announced School Days, scheduled for September 26 at the Exceptional Foundation in Homewood.  The project will be any quilt from Bonnie Hunter’s website, www.quiltville.com.  Doors open at 8:30; lunch will be catered.

Jeanette Reddick will bring the strips brought by members to the meeting to School Days so that those in attendance can also work on NICU baby quilts.

The tip for the month was a method to test for shrinkage/fading without washing the fabric.  Cut a 2” square of the fabric and immerse it in a cup of boiling water.  Blot it on a white paper towel.  If there is no dye residue on the paper towel, the fabric will not fade or run.  After it aid dries, measure the block.  If it is still 2” square, it will not shrink.

Fat Quarters were won by Phyllis Morse and Mary Ann Raley.

Meeting adjourned after Show & Tell.

Fat quarters for October are orange; refreshments to be provided by Carrie Ingram and Carol Guthrie.
